The Cat’s Meow
Meet Dottie Anklam. We think she is The Cat's Meow! Here's why...
You can help the cats and kittens of Cat Haven by volunteering in any of the following ways:
Foster Parents provide a safe and loving home environment for our cats and kittens. This may involve kittens that are too young for adoption, need special medical care, need a break from the Adoption Center, or need special attention to help them become adoptable pets.
Saturday Morning Cleaners
Saturday Morning Cleaners at the Adoption Center socialize with fellow volunteers and the kitties while ensuring the environment is sanitized and disinfected. This prevents the spread of disease and keeps the cats in our care healthy and ready for adoption. (Great for service hours)
Adoption Center Caretakers
Adoption Center Caretakers at PetSmart provide daily care of the cats at our offsite adoption centers. This includes cleaning of cages, providing food and water, monitoring the health of each cat and providing socialization for each cat. (18 and older)
Matchmakers build relationships with potential adopters and assist them in finding cats that are a good match for their home and lifestyle. This includes educating adopters about Cat Haven’s guidelines and completing applications and other related paperwork. Volunteers may also assist with set-up or takedown of adoption materials at off-site locations. (18 and older)
CHAC Caretakers provide a nurturing, clean, and comfortable temporary home at the Cat Haven Adoption Center for our cats prior to adoption. This includes cleaning of cat rooms, providing food and water, giving medications when needed, monitoring the health of each cat, and providing socialization for the cats. This position requires a regular weekly commitment: the same day each week and either morning or evening shift. (21 and older)
Daily CHAC Helpers
Daily Chac Helpers clean the kitty items that accumulate at the Cat Haven Adoption Center during the week: carriers, bowls, litter boxes, laundry, toys, etc. They also clean empty cages to prepare for incoming residents and make time for some cat cuddling. Other duties may include cat transportation.
Cat Transporters provide safe, reliable transportation for our kitties. This may include trips to or from the vet or one of our off-site adoption centers.
Fundraising/Special Event Coordinators
Fundraising/Special Event Coordinators assist with planning and carrying out special events (holiday open houses, fundraising gala, etc.) Volunteers also interact with event attendees and offer whatever help is needed during the event.
LSU Spay Day Volunteers
LSU Spay Day Volunteers help to facilitate the flow of animals through the clinic at the LSU Vet School. Other duties may include animal registration, helping with meals for the volunteers, set-up and takedown, and cleaning up at the conclusion of the day.
