FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DOES CAT HAVEN TAKE IN ANIMALS?

Cat Haven takes in cat and kittens from the community when space is available. We are not an open-intake shelter, so you cannot bring animals to our facility without prior approval. If you would like to place an animal in our program, you must first complete an admission request online. Please allow 5 to 7 business days for our staff to process your request and respond via email.

If you need to place an animal somewhere today, the only open-intake shelter in Baton Rouge is Companion Animal Alliance.

WHAT KIND OF PETS DOES
CAT HAVEN HAVE?

Cat Haven focuses our rescue efforts on cats and kittens only. Our available pets range in age from 10 weeks old to elderly, adult cats. Our cats and kittens are socialized to be indoor-animals only. Our animals are not outdoor or indoor/outdoor pets.

While we do sometimes have pure-breeds available for adoption, most of our cats and kittens are of mixed breed. You may view our available pets online or in person at our adoption center.

CAN CAT HAVEN SPAY/NEUTER MY ANIMAL?

Cat Haven partners with the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine to host a low-to-no-cost spay/neuter events. Community members may use this service to spay/neuter their personal pets or feral cats in their neighborhoods. To participate, complete a Spay Day application online.

Other than this, Cat Haven does not provide spay/neuter services for any animal outside our adoption program.

CAN I PLACE A PET ON HOLD?

Cat Haven will hold an animal for up to 7 days once the adoption fee has been paid. We cannot reserve an animal without payment. If we cannot reach the adopter after the 7-day holding period has ended, the pet will become available for adoption again, and your fee will not be refunded. We do this to ensure that cats and kittens go to new, loving homes as soon as possible.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION PROCESS?

If you are interested in adopting from Cat Haven, you can visit our adoption center Mon-Sat 12-6 p.m. and Sun 12-4 p.m. Appointments are required. You may also view our available pets and complete an adoption application online. Once your application is approved, you can then complete our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Our adoption fees are $125 for kittens 6 months and younger or $115 for cats over 7 months.

Cats and kittens who have already been spayed or neutered can go home with you that same day! Those who have not been fixed yet can still be pre-adopted and will go home once their surgery is complete.

DOES CAT HAVEN OFFER
BOARDING OR VET SERVICES?

No, Cat Haven does not provide boarding or veterinary services for the community. Cats and kittens in our adoption program receive their medical care from our various partner veterinarians in Baton Rouge.
