HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER AT CAT HAVEN?
Below is a list of the various volunteer roles we have at Cat Haven.
No matter who you are, we have some way that you can help!
Socialize the kitties that are having a difficult time adjusting to life in the shelter environment. Coax them with treats, toys, and gentle pets. Make them feel safe and loved while they wait for their perfect home.
ADOPTION CENTER CARETAKERS
Provides a nurturing, clean, and comfortable temporary home for our cats prior to adoption. This includes spot cleaning of cat rooms and cages, providing fresh food, water, and litter, and monitoring the health of each cat. Takes 1-2 hours per shift. Shifts are offered from 9am-11am and 4:30pm-6pm Monday-Saturday and 9am-11am and 3pm-4pm on Sundays.
ADOPTION CENTER HELPER
Cleans kitty items that accumulate during the week: carriers, bowls, litter boxes, laundry, toys, etc. Cleans empty cages and rooms to prepare for incoming residents. Other duties may include sweeping and mopping the facility, unboxing shipments, going through donations, etc. Shifts are offered every day, throughout the day. Monday - Saturday 12-6 pm & Sunday 12-4 pm.
Help scan documents, input information into computers, stuff adoption folders, make copies, shred documents, and other clerical work.
Assists with planning and carrying out special events (holiday open house, annual gala, etc.). Volunteers also interact with event attendees, assist with decorations and coordination of the events.
VETERINARIANS FOR SPAY/NEUTER DAY
Licensed veterinarians only. Perform spay and neuter surgeries for the cats and kittens waiting to go to their forever homes. This includes administering rabies vaccinations and microchip implants when needed. Surgery schedule is flexible to your personal schedule.
Experience preferred, but will train. Assist the veterinarians with spay and neuter surgeries as a scrub tech. Prepare cats and kittens for surgery and monitor them during surgery. (18 and older)
Adoption counselor. Builds relationships with potential adopters and assists them in finding cats that are a good match for their home and lifestyle. This includes educating adopters on Cat Haven’s guidelines and completing applications and other related paperwork if needed. Volunteers may also assist with set-up and/or take down of adoption materials at off-site locations. (18 and older)
