Foods Potentially Poisonous to Pets

The following foods may be dangerous to your pet. If you suspect that your pet has ingested a poisonous substance, immediately contact your veterinarian or the Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

    • Alcoholic beverages
    • Almonds
    • Apple seeds
    • Apricot pits
    • Avocados—toxic to birds, mice, rabbits, horses, cattle, and dairy goats
    • Caffeine (tea, sodas, etc.)
    • Cherry pits
    • Chocolate (baker's, semi-sweet, milk, dark)—poisonous to dogs, cats, and ferrets
    • Coffee (grounds, beans, chocolate covered espresso beans)
    • Hops (used in home beer brewing)
    • Macadamia nuts
    • Moldy foods
    • Mushroom plants
    • Mustard seeds
    • Onions and onion powder
    • Peach pits
    • Potato leaves and stems (green parts)
    • Raisins
    • Rhubarb leaves
    • Salt
    • Tomato leaves and stems (green parts)
    • Walnuts
    • Yeast dough

The following items are also dangerous to your pet:

    • Antifreeze – one teaspoon is deadly
    • Candles
    • Craft Supplies
    • Dental Floss
    • Fabric softener sheets
    • Fishing Line
    • Insecticides/Fertilizers
    • Mothballs
    • Rubber Bands
