And Don't Forget About
"Here Today Gone Tomorrow" |
In 2007, Cat Haven received over $1,500.00 in donations from Here Today Gone
Tomorrow as a result of your donations to the resale store. What an easy way for
you to help support our programs with your unwanted items!
Here Today Gone Tomorrow is located at 10240 Burbank (near Bluebonnet).
They will accept your charitable donation on behalf of Cat Haven and send us a
monthly check for a portion of the proceeds from its sale. All you have to do is
take your unwanted items to HTGT and be sure to let them know they are for Cat
Haven – label items or packaging with “Cat Haven #628” to be sure we are
properly credited for your donation. Thank you for thinking of Cat Haven – it
means a lot to our efforts!

LSU Animal Sterilization Assistance Program (ASAP)
In 2005, Sandra Ditusa, founder of Spay Baton Rouge, submitted a proposal for a joint spay/neuter assistance program to the
Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. The proposal became the basis for LSU’s Animal Sterilization Assistance
Program under the leadership of Dr. Susan Eddlestone. With the participation of Spay Baton Rouge to coordinate monthly Spay
Days, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine committed to spay/neuter up to 100 cats at each monthly event through 2006. Spay
Baton Rouge invited the participation of other area animal welfare organizations and Cat Haven was grateful for the opportunity to
supplement its ongoing Feral Program with its assigned “slots” at Spay Day.
In an effort to share the duties of Spay Day, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine decided to rotate the “lead agency” (coordinator)
duties among interested animal welfare groups in our area. Therefore, Cat Haven will be filling the lead agency role in 2008. The
second Sunday of each month is Spay Day at LSU. Representatives of Cat Haven, Spay Baton Rouge and Capital Area Animal
Welfare Society schedule cats for surgery from their feral cat management projects or from their low-income assistance programs.
They help to process the cats in the early morning on Spay Day by making sure all appropriate patient information is provided by the
cats’ caretakers and properly provided to the veterinary staff. They also assist in discharge of patients at the end of the day.
A significant amount of Cat Haven’s focus this year has been on organizing our successful Spay Days and we look forward to helping
to decrease the breeding population of owned and unowned cats by an additional 1200 by year’s end! |
Cat Haven’s Fix-A-Feline Program and the 2008 National Spay Day Campaign
Cat Haven’s Fix-A-Feline Program and the 2008 National Spay Day Campaign
During the entire month of February, Cat Haven held its 8th annual campaign in conjunction with Spay Day
USA and offered certificates for free spay/neuters for cats. Local veterinarians make this campaign possible
by offering their services to Cat Haven at a reduced rate. The service is offered to anyone unable to afford
having their cat spayed or neutered. This year, over 100 cats were spayed or neutered through our Spay Day
campaign. We thank the following veterinarians for their participation: the LSU ASAP, Animal Medical
Center of Plaquemine, Ark Veterinary Clinic, Armstrong VeterinaryHospital, East Ascension Veterinary
Clinic, Garden District Animal Hospital, Jefferson Animal Hospital, McCaskill Veterinary Hospital, Park
Forest Animal Hospital and Zachary Small Animal Clinic.
Certificates are always available through Cat Haven’s ongoing Fix-A-Feline program. Click here to complete a form online or call 225-346-4238 for more details regarding eligibility.
